Some of the old peripherals PlayStation they have really blown the market, while others have actually been less successful than they deserved. Yet all of them, like a big reunion, could now return to PlayStation 5 thanks to a compatibility system that Sony has filed as patent.
It’s all about videogame preservation, and with the closure of the eShop for 3DS and WiiU starting next year, the fear of losing certain games and peripherals scares many players. Although the process of remake And remastered tries to make up for this lack, actually we are not faced with having the exact same material of years ago, and for this reason all activities – such as this patent – are welcome.
From the image of the patent that you can see above, it seems that PlayStation wants to expand compatibility with peripherals by inserting old glories such as even the Memory Cardrescue systems in vogue on PlayStation and PlayStation 2. The diagram shows the first joypadthe old remote, the PS mouse, the PSP (looks like a Go), the old one EyeToy and the PlayStation Move.
The patent was filed on June 30, 2022 and has as its name “Systems and Methods to convert an old code into an updated code”: we do not know if this is just a method to cover a sector that could explode, or if actually in the future PlayStation could open to old peripherals, especially considering the new PlayStation Plus service.
However, the idea that a EyeToy Cam, useful for playing EyeToy games, could soon become compatible with PlayStation 5 (or maybe be emulated by a newer peripheral) so that you can open up to really interesting and particular titles such as EyeToy Play itself or even The Eye of Judgment. As always for patents, we just have to wait for any future announcements and confirmations from Sony.
