Referee, straight to the ravine
According to information from local media, the match between the Liga Deportiva Real 1º de Mayo and Salvador Quezada, for the championship of the Liga Norte de Antofagasta, was interrupted by the fury of the players against the center-back.
An expulsion that they considered unfair would have been the trigger. His reaction was brutal, mercilessly beating the referee.
The case was so extreme that, according to witnesses, the helpless referee was thrown off a cliff.
The referee was identified as Luis Chavezwho was rescued and transferred to the Regional Hospital, where he remained for several hours, before filing the complaint.
In the images that are broadcast on networks, the referee is seen on the floor, in pain, while some players try to help him.
“They pushed him, he wanted to defend himself, but they didn’t let him defend himself, they jumped on him among all. That is not done. That’s why the referees don’t want to come. Because they are daring”, shouts a woman who accuses the goalkeeper of being “drunk”.
The origin of the aggression
According to information in the local press, the incident began when the referee expelled a player, who reacted violently.
“The fact originated after a bad charge, an expulsion in which the player is obfuscated and attacks, and for more auction later he hits him with a few sticks on the head, already having it in a bad way. It’s all football things, but not that either it justifies the aggression that the referee had,” said the president of the 1º de Mayo club, Patricio Silva, in statements to the media outlet 24 Horas.
“Unfortunately, the referee also has secondary illnesses that are bringing him down. Tomorrow there is a meeting of the presidents of the league to see how the situation really went, ”he added.
