The Spanish national rugby team player Kawa Leauma, 32-year-old equated from New Zealand, and also with Samoan roots, died last night in a hospital in Amsterdam, where he was hospitalized following a “fortuitous accident” which occurred last Saturday after a 6 Nations B match between the Netherlands and Spain.
This was announced by the Spanish Rugby Federation in a statement. Second line 1.97 high and heavy 110 kilos, Leauma was kept out of the match at the last moment due to doubts about his ‘eligibility’ for Spain but he had also taken part, together with his teammates and Dutch rugby players, in a “third time “during which he fell from a building of unspecified height, sustaining serious injuries, particularly to the head.
In its official note, the Spanish federation explains that the player’s wife, arriving from New Zealand, explicitly asked not to provide further details on what happened. Leauma played in the Basque club of Ampo Ordizia.
