BRASILIA (Reuters) – President Jair Bolsonaro’s affiliation with the PL will formally take place on the 30th of this month, the party said in a statement on Tuesday.
Initially scheduled for the 22nd, Bolsonaro’s affiliation with the PL was postponed after disagreements over state support for next year’s election, especially in São Paulo. The president expressed displeasure at the possibility of releasing affiliates in some states for regional agreements.
In 2019 Bolsonaro left the PSL, the party for which he was elected president. He needs to be affiliated with a legend to run for re-election next year. Before the PL, the president had already come very close to agreeing his affiliation with the PP, another party in the centrão.
