Pirelli’s motorsport division received the three stars of the Environmental Accreditation Program promoted by FIA, the governing body of motorsport at an international level.
This is the highest achievable score of the program, the purpose of which is to propose a series of measures that participants must implement to achieve the highest environmental standards.
Pirelli’s environmental strategy will allow the group to reach carbon neutrality by 2030. Motorsport activities are also moving in this direction, starting with Formula 1, the most important of the competitions in which the company is involved.
Examples of Pirelli’s environmental sustainability objectives, both in business and in manufacturing, include the reduction of overall CO2 emissions by 25% by 2025 (compared to 2015 levels) and the goal of procuring a quota equal to 100% of electricity from renewable sources: a goal already achieved for all Pirelli’s European plants.
Among the measures that Pirelli has taken in Formula 1 are the increase in the use of renewable materials, the elimination of single-use plastics from track activities and a supply chain completely managed according to environmental and social sustainability criteria. In addition, Pirelli’s motorsport business has successfully passed a series of rigorous sustainability audits that take into consideration various elements for reducing environmental impact, starting with carbon dioxide emissions.
Pirelli Senior Vice President Prestige, Motorsport, Sustainability and Future Mobility, Giovanni Tronchetti Provera commented: “It is a great honor for us to obtain the three-star award assigned by the FIA given that attention to environmental sustainability is central to the development of Pirelli and fully integrated into our motorsport business model. We have always placed the emphasis on sustainability in motorsport, working closely with the FIA and fully sharing the same vision of sustainable mobility and sport “.
