After twelve years being one of the most iconic couples in entertainment, Gerard Piqué and Shakira are in the process of separation.
The link between the Spaniard and the Colombian, two great media figures, has been portrayed throughout most of Shakira’s musical production.
The singer’s followers draw the line from the popular ‘Waka Waka’, through her references to the ‘Blue Eyes’ and the ‘trip to Tayrona’. Everything would end in the supposed dedication in ‘I congratulate you’.

‘Waka Waka’
The song of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa was the reflection of the beginning of the relationship between Shakira and Piqué. In fact, although the lyrics are not dedicated to him, the footballer appears in the video. In that tournament, ‘Shak’ was quite a sensation. Piqué, meanwhile, was champion.
‘Dare (La La La)’
An important milestone of ‘Dare (La La La)’ is that the singer performed this song at the closing ceremony of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. About Piqué? Well, the lyrics of the song have a verse inspired by the look of her husband, where she talks about her blue eyes.
“My whole life was like this; I looked for you so much until you arrived; With that mouth that God has given you; I couldn’t even leave you; The desire for you devours me; The seconds of all hours; Your two stars is all I want; Without your blue eyes, I die; come and kiss me a lot; The world doesn’t matter; The night begins; No, no, don’t stop now,” the lyrics say.

’23’
Another of the songs in which Shakira refers to her ex-partner is in ’23’, a theme named after the footballer’s age when they both met. The theme describes a singer who used to “feel alone” and thought “that there was no God”; however, this changed thanks to those cute “blue eyes”.
‘Broken Record’
‘Broken Record’ indicates in a paragraph that he doesn’t need to keep looking for the ideal man, because Piqué was “the one”. And already as a registered trademark, the barranquillera returns to mention the eyes of her husband. “Your eyes take me to places I never dreamed of”says the lyrics of the song.
‘I fell in love’
Already from the title you can see that it is a topic with a clear reference to his sentimental situation and dedicated to the love he felt for his partner at that time. In case it wasn’t clear that the song was dedicated to Piqué, well, he himself appears at the end of the video clip.
“It’s what I was looking for; I thought I was dreaming; What was I complaining about?; I don’t know what I was thinking; Today I’m kicking to heaven”expresses the lyric.
‘Tons’
After the release of ‘Sale el sol’, in 2010, Shakira took a break of almost 7 years to return with the album ‘El Dorado’, where she included hit songs like “Tonadas”, in which she would have thanked her in a verse to Piqué for motivating her to continue in music.
And if it wasn’t for you, I would have given up on my dreams..

‘The bike’
Although it is not a song dedicated exclusively to Piqué, the last verse of the song ‘La bici’ is a salute to the flag of what his love was.
“Take, take me on your bike, listen to me, Carlos, take me on your bike; so that we can play ball ‘and rag there in Chancleta; that if you show Piqué one day the Tayrona then he won’t want to go to Barcelona”.
‘I congratulate you’ Is it?
Although not confirmed, the majority of Shakira’s followers sense that ‘I congratulate you’, her latest song, is a ‘dedication’ to Piqué.
“To complete you I broke into pieces; I was warned, but I didn’t listen; I realized that yours is false; it was the drop that overflowed the glass; don’t tell me you’re sorry, that seems sincere, but I know you well and I know you lie; I congratulate you, how well you act, of that I have no doubt; continue with your role, that show suits you ”, she expresses the lyric.
“I don’t buy that cheap philosophy, I’m sorry, I don’t ride that bike anymore; I can’t stand two-faced people; I put my hands on the fire for you and you treat me like one more of your cravings; your wound did not open my skin, but it did open my eyesyes; I have them red from crying so much for you; and, now, it turns out that you feel it; It sounds sincere, but I know you well and I know that you lie; I congratulate you, you act well”.
