Pickups are still a rare commodity in Europe, compared to their huge success in the US. Electric pickups, on the other hand, are a very rare item, which is why several ‘battery’ startups are looking for the best idea to raise funds and try to break through the market., forcing even traditional car manufacturers to invest more in the issue.
One such startup is Hercules Electric Vehicles, and to start with, it chose Pininfarina as its technical partner of excellence in order to combine battery technology with a design by big names. The Detroit-based company expects its pickup Alpha it will be available from 2022 with four electric motors that will guarantee 1000 horsepower.

According to what they report Autoweek and Car and Driver, Hercules’ top management appears to have a good understanding of the global auto industry. For example the founder, James Breyer, has ‘toured’ several car manufacturers and worked as chief development engineer for the Chevrolet Spark project (propulsion side) and chief engine development engineer for the Chevrolet Volt.
As in the case of any startup, it cannot be said for sure whether the pickup signed by Pininfarina will see the light of day. If this happens it will be interesting to see how the design could be and how much it could count in a market, that of electric pickups, which is still far from being frequented with assiduity by the houses.. The United States, however, already has the lead in this sector, with Ford, General Motors and Stellantis all expected to carry out noteworthy electrification projects. Not to mention Tesla, who would like to clear this market forever with the Cybertruck.
