In-flight tragedy. A Turkish Airlines pilot died on the Seattle-Istanbul route, forcing the Turkish national airline’s plane to make an emergency landing in New York. This was reported by the spokesperson of Turkish Airline, Yahya Ustun, on the social network
The plane took off last night from the city on the west coast of the United States, and landed at John F. Kennedy airport in New York just before 6am on Wednesday 9 October: “The pilot of our Airbus 350, flight TK204 from Seattle in Istanbul, collapsed during the flight”, explained the spokesperson, as also reported by Newsweek, according to which “after a failed attempt to provide first aid, the flight crew and co-pilot decided to make an emergency landing “As Turkish Airlines, we are deeply touched by the loss of our captain and express our sincere condolences to his grieving family, colleagues and all his loved ones,” he concluded.
The 59-year-old pilot, who had worked for Turkish Airlines since 2007, died before the plane landed. The man had passed a medical examination last March, which revealed no health problems that would have prevented him from flying.
