The Swiss brand Piëch Automotive has officially started testing its electric model GT, largely based on the Mark Zero prototype unveiled in 2019. The carmaker, founded by the son of the late head of the Volkswagen group Ferdinand Piëch, intends to put the sports car up for sale starting in 2024.
The retro-style two-seater will be the same size as the Porsche 911 and will mount a trio of electric motors – two in the rear and one in the front – which will produce a combined power of 600hp. One of the objectives to be achieved is to sign a time of 3 seconds in acceleration from zero to one hundred per hour. The battery should have a range of 500 kilometers. According to Autocar, the car will be produced by a third-party company, so that the costs of the factories do not directly affect the budget of Piëch Automotive.
Two years ago there was already talk of a power of 610 horsepower, a self-limited maximum speed of 250 km / h, and an optimal weight distribution comparable to that of a combustion car, in particular thanks to a specific location. of the batteries. Recently (in 2020) the Swiss start-up founded by Anton Piëch nominated Matthias Müller as the new president. The manager had been head of Volkswagen from 25 September 2015 (appointed right in the middle of the outbreak of the emissions scandal) to 12 April 2018.
The three-year timeframe to finally put the car into production shouldn’t be deceiving: proclamations from everything and immediately proposed by other start-ups have often led to sensational delays and embarrassed communications. This is why it is better to proceed step by step and first acquire all the funds necessary to complete the projects and make the cars reliable before entrusting them to direct sales.
