Nuevo León.- With the metropolitan area receiving only six hours of daily water supply, the Government of Nuevo León yesterday burst a milking pipe to the aqueduct of the The Knife Dam that supplies the city, liquid that was diverted to a dam on a ranch.
The water for the dam, located in the municipality of Los Ramonescould supply the entire municipality of García or 140,000 people, said Governor Samuel García, citing data from Water and Drainage (AyD).
García maintained that they have detected six ranches in the area that milk the aqueduct and offered to give more information today.
El Cuchillo, the largest dam in the state, It is the main source of water in the city, since it supplies about 5,000 liters per second, almost half of the 13,000 liters consumed by the metropolitan area, the emecista stressed.
The ranch, near the free highway to Reynosa and whose owner was not identified, used the liquid to raise tilapia.
“These bandits punctured the pipeline three times and, alleging a leak, they filled the ranch with this dam,” García said yesterday at noon in a video transmission of the state operation on the ranch.
“The leak, according to Water and Drainage, is equivalent to what García consumes, 140,000 people,” he stressed.
The operation was carried out after Grupo REFORMA reported last Tuesday of the existence of leaks in the El Cuchillo aqueduct, precisely in the municipality of Los Ramones.
The Governor ordered yesterday to close the ranch, fix the leaks and extract the water from the dam with pipes to take it to the city, in addition to searching more properties near the aqueduct.
“We are going to deal a resounding blow. We have detected six ranches that steal water from the El Cuchillo pipeline,” he said.
The local President promised to give today the names of the owners of these six buildings.
The ranch with the dam is located at kilometer 73 of the free highway to Reynosa and the 84-inch milking duct is located about 300 meters from the dam.
According to state data, the three clandestine intakes that stole the liquid for the property took out at least 300 liters per second, equivalent to what is currently supplied by the La Boca Dam, which is almost dry.
In the operation, which began in the morning repairing the leaks, AyD personnel, ministerial agents and some 15 patrols with Civil Force police officers, including elements of the Tactical Actions Division, participated.
In addition to this, the President reported that they searched ranches with illegal seizures in the citrus zone, both in the vicinity of the Pilón Rivers, in General Terán, and in the Ramos River, in Montemorelos.
