As part of an 80 million euro refurbishment, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit is in full metamorphosis. Some of the structures around the track will be remodeled and the track itself will also be improved.
The leaders of the plant want to increase the variety of categories they currently host, also welcoming motorcycle races. However, to obtain an FIM license, the circuit must be modified in some respects.
In addition to the demolition and construction of some stands, previous updates have already shown that some corners, including the Eau Rouge-Raidillon, have been revised.
Meanwhile, the Ardennes circuit also released a series of photos of Pouhon and the chicane that precedes the starting straight. At both of these points, the much-criticized asphalt escape routes have given way to gravel.
But these aren’t the only traits that will receive this type of makeover, because the gravel will also return to the outside of La Source, Les Combes, Brussels and Blanchimont.
Work on the track should be completed before the start of the new season. A new set of grandstands outside the Eau Rouge is expected to be completed by the end of April.
The WEC will visit the Belgian track on the weekend of 13 May, while Formula 1 will contest the Belgian Grand Prix on the weekend of 26-28 August, in what will be the first race of the category after the summer break.
