A new wave of the spread of coronavirus has begun, but for now people can live their normal lives thanks to the drugs developed, said Albert Burla, CEO of the American multinational pharmaceutical company Pfizer, in an interview with the newspaper. Jerusalem Post on Saturday, July 2nd.
Burla admitted that he was always very careful in his recommendations to each state in view of the unique characteristics of the countries. The people leading them are quite qualified and know exactly what needs to be done, he noted.
“There is a new wave. I believe that not everyone took the fourth dose [вакцины], besides there is a strain “Omicron”, which is more difficult to control. The vaccine, as Israeli data has shown, reduces the chances of ending up in the hospital or dying. I do not make recommendations to governments. I give them data and they make recommendations. Here in Israel, the fourth dose of the vaccine is recommended. Right now, we don’t need the social distancing measures we had before. People around the world are demanding a return to their usual lives, and there is every opportunity to do it now,” said the Pfizer CEO.
According to Burla, the percentage of people vaccinated is quite high, and treatments are available, including oral ones, that significantly reduce the likelihood of a serious form of the disease. With all the medical resources available to doctors, people “can live their normal lives,” the expert concluded.
The representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) organization in the Russian Federation Melita Vujnovich on July 2 warned of a possible increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia in the summer. She stressed that the pandemic is ongoing and no country will be safe while the virus is circulating everywhere.
On July 1, foreign media reported that a sharp increase in the incidence of COVID-19 was recorded in Europe. There is also an increase in the number of hospitalizations among the population.
The vaccination campaign continues in Russia. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Seven drugs against coronavirus have been registered in the country: the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, Sputnik M, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N, CoviVac and Convasel.
