President Jair Bolsonaro

BRASILIA (Reuters) – The Federal Police considered that President Jair Bolsonaro committed crimes by making an association – without evidence and falsely – between vaccination against Covid-19 and the alleged development of AIDS, asked for the extension of the investigation investigating the case to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and wants to take the testimony of the Chief Executive.
In a demonstration sent late this Wednesday afternoon to the STF, PF delegate Lorena Lima Nascimento understood that Bolsonaro encouraged non-compliance with the health measure that required the use of masks, a crime of incitement to crime, and also caused alarm to third parties. a non-existent danger, which would be a criminal misdemeanor — another offense of lesser offensive potential.
The PF asks Supreme Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur for the investigation, to authorize the corporation to indict Bolsonaro and others involved in the case.
In a social media broadcast in October last year, the president said that UK government reports would have shown that people fully vaccinated against Covid had developed AIDS.
When sending a new partial report of the investigations to the STF, the delegate said that it is necessary to carry out further steps to complete the investigations, including listening to Bolsonaro himself.
“(…) And, as the last act of the present investigation, the President of the Republic may be heard, whose formatting – in person or in writing, is requested for the due authorization of the Hon. Rapporteur Minister”, she asked, addressing Alexandre de Moraes.
Sought, the Attorney General’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Moraes assumed the position of president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) the day before and will be responsible for conducting the election. In recent months, he has been the target of constant attacks by the president for allegations – also without evidence – of a lack of security in the electronic voting system.
This inquiry had been opened by Moraes against Bolsonaro after the STF minister was provoked by the former president of the CPI da Covid, senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM).
