Peugeot’s high-performance range, known everywhere by the acronym PSE, an acronym for Peugeot Sport Engineered, is taking a break. The Lion car manufacturer has in fact announced that beyond the 508 the PSE line-up will not expand further: question of priorityin this case represented by complete electrification.
Peugeot PSE, range on standby
“To be honest, we thought about expanding the PSE range, but then prioritization came into play and everything revolves around electrification – said Linda Jackson, CEO of Peugeot – The fact is that like Stellantis we are investing 40 billion euros in electrification, and Peugeot is part of it. We will have a full range of battery-powered cars by the end of this year, and each of our models will have an electric version and we will have to establish our own priority“.
Priority to electrification
This does not mean that in future there may not be room for a high-performance car built on one of the modular electric vehicle platforms used in the Stellantis Group, even if at the moment there is nothing in the pipeline. “Who knows, nothing is certain at the moment. Of course, I won’t say that we will launch something tomorrow, so don’t get your hopes up.”Jackson clarified.
From the track to the road?
Still speaking of electrification, one cannot be ruled out road model with direct connection to the 9X8 and its complex four-wheel drive hybrid powertrain. “I’m not sure, but yes, we could do it – clarified Jackson – Do we need it or do we need to develop the technology across a wider range of cars? This is under discussion at the moment, but we have not made any final decisions yet. I think you can have a disparity between the road and the track. Ultimately, it’s about building awareness, but also engineering and durability, which you can do without necessarily having a road car. But that doesn’t mean we won’t have one. It’s a interesting debate“.
