The format of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s participation in the G20 summit in Indonesia has not yet been determined. This was announced to journalists on August 31 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“There is no decision yet, we are considering the situation. In any case, Russia takes part in the work of this forum at the ministerial level and will take part at the highest level, but the format of participation will be determined a little later,” Peskov said.
As Yury Ushakov, aide to the President of the Russian Federation, previously reported, the decision on the format of Putin’s participation in the G20 summit will be made immediately before the trip.
Earlier, on August 20, Reuters, citing a representative of the British Foreign Office, indicated a change in the opinion of the department on Russia’s participation in the G20 summit. The interlocutor of the agency said that Russia supposedly “has no moral right” to attend the event while the special operation to protect Donbass continues.
The day before, it was reported that Indonesia was ready to organize a meeting between Russian President and US President Joe Biden at the G20 summit in case of their full-time participation and interest in this. Indonesian President Joko Widodo also told Bloomberg that Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping plan to attend the G20 summit in Bali in person.
In early April, it became known that the United States was putting pressure on Indonesia to prevent Putin from participating in the G20 summit. In particular, representatives of the Washington administration raised the issue of US President Joe Biden refusing to attend the G20 summit if the Russian leader was present.
The G20 summit is a meeting of heads of countries with the most developed and developing economies. This year the event will take place on November 15-16 in Bali in person.
