The Peruvian Government declared this Tuesday person non grata to the Mexican ambassador in Lima, Paul Monroyand he gave 72 hours to leave the Andean country in response to the “interference” that they consider to have been carried out by the “high authorities” of the North American nation.
“I report that the Government of Peru has declared a person non grata to the ambassador of Mexico in Peru, Pablo Monroy, for the repeated expressions of the highest authorities of that country (…) that constitute interference in our internal affairs and are in violation of the principle of non-intervention,” said the foreign minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi in a statement.
Safe conduct to relatives of Castillo
Before this decision was made known, the Peruvian Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that it had granted a safe-conduct to Lilia Paredes, wife of the former president. Pedro Castillo, and his children to go to Mexicoa country that has granted them asylum and informed the Government of that nation that it is being investigated for a common crime, so there is no “political persecution”.
