Renewal among doubts
For the umpteenth time since he finds himself competing for the Red Bull team Sergio Perez is going through a difficult period. In the last two races the Mexican has collected two retirements and since then Miami has collected just four points in the standings in three GPs. Despite these record negative numbersobtained while his boxmate Max Verstappen continues to dominate the championship, Perez earned a contract renewal with Red Bull, guaranteeing himself the seat for 2025 and an option for 2026, however to the advantage of the team.
Necessary “distraction”.
Commenting on the resolution of these negotiations, Perez expressed a certain satisfaction especially for the conclusion of a period – that of the discussions with the team’s management – which evidently did not contribute at all to keeping him calm and focused on what his work should have been in track. “As in any negotiation, there is always a process to follow and it is not always pleasant to have to do it between races, while you are pushing hard”the #11 told the RacingNews365 website.
Checo admitted that having to define the details of the agreement with the Milton Keynes team was a “distraction“. Now, however, it will be up to him to demonstrate that his mind is fully focused on the track, to straighten out a very disappointing ranking situation, which currently sees him dropped to fifth place in the Drivers’ ranking: “Being able to get this distraction out of the way for the team and for myself is nice, so we can focus on pure performance. I believe this is the best thing for our team“.
