Perez knocked out again
Among the many protagonists who characterized the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix there was no shortage Sergio Perezwhich once again was noticed negatively: the Mexican in fact ended his race prematurely, heavily damaging the rear end of his RB20 during the 51st lap, losing control of the car in turn 6.
Perez hit the barriers and returned to the track, but found himself forced to raise the white flag and return to the pits, also receiving a three place grid penalty for the next GP for driving – at the request of the team – with the single-seater dangerously damaged.
“Like Seb 2011”
Checo’s mistake was also commented on at the back of the podium, where Verstappen, Norris and Russell were watching the highlights of the Grand Prix. Reviewing Red Bull’s road exit you hear some of the top-3 (probably Norris) letting go of a comparison with an episode from the pastwhich had always had a car from Milton Keynes as its protagonist.
In fact, it was he who was recalled the mistake made in the same corner on the last lap of the 2011 race by Sebastian Vettel. The German did not end up against the barriers and managed to restart, but with that long shot he gave Jenson Button success, at the time the representative of McLaren. That year, however, Seb dominated the championship, winning the title well in advance. A feat that Perez doesn’t seem destined to replicate
