The world of professional motorsport, especially as regards the higher categories, is not always easy to reach for those who dream of being able to participate or impose themselves in the top series, both internationally and continental. In this case, children who fail to achieve their sporting goals – while keeping their passion for racing alive – must in fact dedicate themselves to other jobs far from the world of competitions. Scenarios, these, often imagined also by the drivers who have instead managed to make their climb towards Formula 1, starting with the current teammate of Max Verstappen in Red Bull: Sergio Perez.
The Mexican, winner of 2 GPs between 2020 and 2021 – first with Racing Point and then with the Austrian team – has recently admitted what it would have been his profession most welcome in case he didn’t make it to F1, where he arrived eleven years ago after a long experience in the minor categories, both at home and in Europe. In particular, Checo stated that he would like to start a career from lawyer or banker, thus explaining their will in the podcast The Edge: “I think that share a little bit of the adrenaline that we experience every day in our life – He admitted – and I really like those professions that really give you this kind of feeling. I would have liked to have remained tied to sport, perhaps in the role of lawyer who helps athletes to conclude their contracts; a type of manager. I really like life close to the competitive environment, living from this and thinking about what can be improved, or how to be better “.
In conclusion, Perez finally answered a specific question about the future of his own sons, especially if he wanted to see them busy, like his father, in motorsport: “It’s a tough career – he added – and I believe that to reach the highest levels of the sport in question, it takes a lot of sacrifice. If my children are willing to do this, giving everything to be successful, and staying very professional at a young age, I will be more than happy to support them. I have had all the support of my parents, so I will do the same for my children. It doesn’t matter to me if they want to be Formula 1 drivers or lawyers, I will support them in whatever they want to do, but I will push them to be the best, to make sure they give their best. If they don’t have the talent to be the best, at least they have to make sure they give everything, and this, for me, is the most important thing ”.
