With four points behind Valtteri Bottas, and nine from Lando Norris, the first championship of Sergio Perez at the wheel of Red Bull it certainly cannot be defined as negative. The Mexican, currently 5th in the overall standings, took two podiums in France and a Baku, where the 31-year-old also took his first win with the Austrian team. Yet, despite a positive first part of the season, Verstappen’s team-mate still admitted that he was not completely comfortable with the car, expressing all his feelings to motorsport-total.com: “It’s different from circuit to circuit – commented the former Racing Point driver – in some I feel certain problems, elsewhere I perceive still others. It is not easy to find the right grip, regardless of the conditions ”.
“It is a very different machine, with a different philosophy characterized by the high rake setup. Consequentially – continues the Mexican – I still have a lot to learn and discover. But with the limited time, and with the different conditions at each session, it is difficult to explore the car. In a sense, I seem to have changed series“.
However, despite the concerns and problems encountered, Perez looks to the future with optimism, starting with the next Belgian Grand Prix: “Slowly I am understanding the behavior of the car. Today, at least, I can give the team directions to go in the right direction over the course of the weekend. I think – concludes the Red Bull driver – which will get better and better with the passing of the year “.
