The residents of the Tower of Nicolás Pérez recover a tape with typical songs from the western zone and reissue them on CD to prevent the lyrics from being lost
«This is my town, it is a bouquet of carnations, lilies and laurels, inside my heart. This is my town, this is what I love most, I don’t change it for money, it is my pride and my coat of arms. This is my beautiful town in the Cartagena countryside, what a pride ‘my mother’ to have been born Spanish, and also to be a perero». The lyrics of this pasodoble refer to Perín and have been sung at its festivals for decades, like others in Los Puertos de Santa Bárbara and Galifa, among many other towns in the west.
To prevent its original lyrics from falling into oblivion and, incidentally, part of its culture, the residents of the Tower of Nicolás Pérez have recovered and reissued the most typical songs on a CD. It includes thirteen themes dedicated to the people of Campo de Cartagena.
All the compositions, both their lyrics and their music, are the work of Salvador Pérez Martínez, better known as Peremar. The compilation is also a tribute to the figure of this artist, as explained by Pepe Márquez ‘El Cuco’, a disciple of Peremar and in charge of giving voice to the work. «It is a way to recover the figure of him, a resident of Perín who did a lot for culture. He came to compose for Manolo Escobar and Rocío Jurado », highlighted the president of the Association of Residents of the Tower of Nicolás Pérez, Alfonso Agüera, the ideologue of this initiative.
To promote the songs, Pepe Márquez ‘El Cuco’ sang them in a concert at the town festivals
On Saturday, during the festivities of this town, a tribute to this distinguished neighbor was celebrated, in which ‘El Cuco’ performed the typical pasodobles of the western zone included in the CD. He did it on stage located in La Vieja Hacienda, where part of the festivities are held.
a year of work
To carry out this project, the neighbors have been working for more than a year. They have even used a recording from the 1990s. Agüera keeps in his house the only original VHS tape, owned by her nonagenarian mother, where the pasodobles are performed in different locations, such as the Perín aqueduct. Her next goal is to get it back so she can make it known as well. Rubén Ros, sound technician, was in charge of the assembly. He worked on an existing orchestra base to which he added Márquez’s voice recorded in the studio. Five hundred copies have come out, which the town’s Neighborhood Association distributed the night before last at the festivities. The funding for this was provided by the Perín Neighborhood Board.
On Saturday, a mass and a procession were held in honor of San Nicolás, patron saint of the town. While yesterday the festivities ended with the celebration of a meeting of classic vehicles and the fourth contest for throwing almonds into the basket.
