Parties|The party meeting outlined that all relationships must be based on the voluntary nature of the parties and that multi-relationship partnerships should not be treated discriminatory in society or legislation.
The green ones won’t start driving yet recognition of polygamous relationships through legislation, the party conference outlined on Sunday.
The issue had been initiated by the green youth organization.
However, the party meeting, based on the initiative, outlined that all relationships must be based on the voluntary nature of the parties and that multi-relationship partnerships should not be treated discriminatory in society or legislation.
Chairman Sofia Virta stated that the Greens are an egalitarian party, but that there is still a lot to be clarified on issues related to multi-partnerships.
“As chairman, I see that we are a liberal party that thinks that every person should have the right to live in a relationship that suits them, no matter what kind it is – as long as it is based on consent and voluntariness, not on any kind of coercion and subjugation of the other,” Virta said.
Party meeting stated in its decision that many economic, social and legal issues are related to the position of polygamy in society, which require thorough investigation and reflection.
This is not the first time that the question has been brought up in the Finnish political debate.
“At the party meeting of the coalition the same initiative has been seen in practice”, Virta reminded.
The youth organization initially proposed in its initiative that the party take a positive stance on polygamy and promote the possibility of recognizing more than one legal spouse at the level of the law.
Virta pointed out that the Greens also approved the initiative on criminalizing mandatory control at the party meeting.
“When I have spoken a lot about violence against women also because of my own experiences, I am glad that we also took an important initiative on the criminalization of coercive control. That is, to recognize the ever-expanding forms of how people can be subjugated in various human relationships,” Virta said.
Power also comment Sdp planned intermediate issue from the export-led wage model. The Greens have not yet made a decision on whether to participate in the interim question, but Virta stated that she has done a lot of work with women-dominated low-wage industries.
“I am very disappointed with the government’s decisions to promote an export-led wage model and thereby lock these sectors into the wage pit. I welcome this Sdp initiative with interest. Preliminary discussions have taken place, but nothing has been agreed yet,” Virta said.
“The Greens do want to prevent the progress of this export-led wage model.”
