In France, 2.4 million employees are now on partial unemployment. But it is less than with our European neighbors, as Jean-Paul Chapel specifies on the plateau. “In Germany, they are 4.6 million, in Italy 4.3 million, and in the United Kingdom 3.5 million,” he continues. In total, 20 million employees are on partial unemployment in Europe at present. “It’s still half as much today as at the height of the crisis”, insists Jean-Paul Chapel.
Some European countries have decided to extend this device. The United Kingdom and Italy will keep this support measure at least until the end of October, while Greece and Sweden will continue it until the end of December. Germany will extend this mechanism until the end of 2021. This is a “guarantee of protection for employees”, but this “will not encourage the most affected sectors to adapt to the new situation”.
