Center is considering participating in the intermediate question if the government brings a bill to the parliament on the so-called export-led wage model. Chairman of the center Antti Kaikkonen begs, however, that the government withdraw the bill in question.
The bill may be under consideration at the Government Council session as early as Thursday.
Kaikkonen says that he thinks it is possible that cooperation between the opposition on intermediate issues will arise if the motion reaches the parliament. According to him, the center’s parliamentary group will ultimately decide on participation in the interim question.
According to Kaikkonen, in writing an export-driven wage model into law, there is a risk that permanent wage gaps will arise in non-export industries. He said that he had always been critical of the model and that he noticed to his joy that others in the opposition had also woken up.
Kaikkonen held a press conference in the parliament, where he threatened that the center would also ask questions about social and health services. For now, the center is waiting for the prime minister Petteri Orpo (kok) would give the Prime Minister’s announcement on the matter, which Kaikkonen had hoped for a few weeks ago.
“I repeat the appeal to the government: bring this big issue to the parliament,” Kaikkonen said.
According to Kaikkonen, the opposition has means at its disposal to get the matter before the parliament, and an intermediate question is an alternative to that.
According to Kaikkonen, the intermediate question is the opposition’s strongest weapon, so it should be used judiciously.
Kaikkonen also hoped that the government and the president of the republic would together clarify Finland’s line on controversial foreign policy issues that have been discussed recently. According to Kaikkonen, it is important that the government and the president meet at the meeting of the foreign and security policy committee, or tp-utva, as soon as possible.
“This must happen in the very next few days, the unclear situation cannot continue for much longer,” Kaikkonen said.
The government parties have argued with each other about the minister Ville Tavion (ps) about the decision to leave Finland out of the equality coalition for the reconstruction of Ukraine and exchanged words about Finland’s recent UN vote.
“It is important that Finland has a unified line in foreign and security policy. There seems to be some ambiguity about Middle East policy, but the issue of Finland’s support for Ukraine is also unclear. These issues must be clarified once and for all, Finland can only have one line in foreign and security policy,” Kaikkonen said.
