Parliament Prime Minister Marin: Growth-friendly policies must not be stopped too soon – Live broadcast of parliamentary opening debate

Prime Minister Sanna Marin will open the government’s policy for the current year in Parliament.

Prime minister Sanna Marin During the opening debate in Parliament on Tuesday, he praised the government’s economic policy and the recovery of the Finnish economy from the 2020 shock caused by the interest rate pandemic.

Marin gave the Prime Minister a statement on government policy in 2022.

“Economic growth is brisk, employment is at a record level and investment has grown at a rapid pace. There were more than 70,000 more people in employment at the end of last year than at the beginning of the election period, despite the historic economic crisis, ”said Marin.

He said that even the surprisingly good development of the economy and employment is partly due to the strong pull of the global economy.

“Successful economic policies have also played a significant role,” he said.

“Adequate support for people and businesses, as well as targeted recovery, have helped to soften the impact of the economy and accelerate recovery.”

Marinine however, it must be acknowledged that there are still risks and uncertainties surrounding the development of the pandemic.

“Therefore, the ability of economic policy to respond as required by the situation must also be maintained, and pro-growth policies must not be stopped too soon,” Marin said.

He went on to say that the government has already adopted the first draft amending budget for the year, which meets the necessary support needs, in particular due to the constraints resulting from the omikron conversion.

What the coronavirus will, Marin said, the situation is brighter than was thought a moment ago.

However, the situation may change, he stressed.

“However, we need to remember that the virus is unpredictable and situations can change quickly. That is why there must always be a readiness to react to a changing situation, ”Marin said.

He stressed the importance of vaccines in fighting the virus.

“Our message to citizens is: take the first, second and third vaccines. Taking the vaccine is still the best way to protect yourself and the burden of medical care. ”

Marin also briefly commented on the tense security situation in Europe, for example.

“Tensions in the vicinity of Ukraine have not diminished and the situation is serious,” he said.

“If Russia takes new military action against Ukraine, it must be prepared to respond with substantial sanctions.”

According to Marin, the main responsibility for alleviating the situation lies with Russia, and a solution must be actively sought through diplomacy.

“It must be recognized that there is a long-term change in the international environment that is affecting the whole of Europe.”

Marin stated that the basic line of Finland’s foreign and security policy is stable and clear to everyone.

He emphasized the need for an open debate on foreign and security policy and the role of Parliament in this. According to Marin, the prime minister’s announcement of the foreign and security policy situation is coming in February.
