Parliament | Halla-aho received 91 votes in the speaker's election and was elected – Live broadcast underway

Sdp found a lot to criticize about Halla-aho's activities as speaker.

Basic Finns Jussi Halla-aho got 91 votes in the election of the speaker of the parliament.

Sdp's parliamentary group announced in advance that it does not intend to support Speaker Jussi Halla-aho (ps) in the election of the parliamentary bureau, which started at 12 o'clock. This is what the chairman of Sdp's parliamentary group said Titti Tuppurainen for HS.

Halla-aho received the majority of the votes cast and was elected. The next highest number of votes went to those in the protest mood of basic Finns Juho to Eerola, which received 17 votes. Basic Finns Sakari Park got 4 votes. 36 blank votes were cast. In addition, a few representatives received mixed votes.

Sdp's group has 43 representatives, so the protest expanded to other groups as well. This is a closed ticket vote.

Next, the first and second presidents are elected. The elections will start the work of the parliament after the Christmas break.

“The atmosphere is such that our group is unlikely to provide much significant support for Speaker Halla-aho's continuation. Instead, there was a lot of criticism specifically of Speaker Halla-aho's actions during the past term,” Tuppurainen said before the session.

In addition to Halla-aho, the current Speakers of the Parliament are the first Deputy Speaker Paula Risikko (cook) and the second vice-president Tarja Filatov (sd).

The current presidency of the Parliament Paula Risikko (kok), Jussi Halla-aho (ps) and Tarja Filatov (sd).

Sdp's representatives were given free rein to vote in the election as they wished.

“The general mood and common view was that Jussi Halla-aho has made it quite difficult for us to support his continuation as speaker with his own actions. After all, he was elected speaker after the parliamentary elections with quite a lot of parliamentary support. In our group, the displays are not convincing”, Tuppurainen says.

It is customary for the groups entitled to the positions of speakers to nominate their candidates, who are voted for by others, but often in the past there have also been scattered and protest votes in elections.

There was dissatisfaction with Halla-aho in the fall. According to Tuppurainen, for example, last summer he refused to convene the parliament during the racism uproar, even though all the opposition groups proposed it. According to Tuppurainen, he also tried to limit the Dem representative By Kim Berg the right to speak Vilhelm Junnilaa (ps) in the racism debate and has publicly criticized the Sdp representative Piritta Rantanen personal things.

According to Tuppurainen, it is questionable whether Halla-aho can function as a person who convenes the entire parliament and is above the politics of the day.

Sdp was not in contact with other opposition groups, nor with basic Fin
ns. Chairman of the parliamentary group of fundamental Finns
Jani Mäkelä says to HS that he is surprised that Tuppurainen did not inform basic Finns in advance.

“It does not represent good cooperation between the groups,” says Mäkelä.

Fluffy also disapproves of Halla-aho's words about cutting Yle's funding.

In addition, Halla-aho said during his presidential election campaign in Yle's election machine that the requirement of Finnish citizenship by birth could apply not only to the president but also to members of parliament and ministers.

“It is important that the president has deep roots in Finnish soil. The birth requirement could very well be extended to ministers and MPs as well,” Halla-aho reasoned in the election machine.

This would mean that the coalition of the current MPs Ben Zyskowiczof Sdp Nasima Razmyar and the greens Bella Forsgren could not act as MPs.

With parliamentary groups is a long-term agreement according to which the second largest group gets the position of speaker, the largest gets the position of first vice-speaker and the third largest gets the position of second vice-speaker.

According to Tuppurainen, the Sdp does not question the fact that the speaker's position belongs to basic Finns.

Speaker's vote the biggest recent scandal was in 2010, when the then president of the coalition Sauli Niinistö received only 89 votes in the election. Niinistö was so shocked that he had to give up the whole task, but after a joint consultation with parliamentary groups, Niinistö agreed to continue.

The protest was due to the fact that some MPs were upset with the parliament's spending discipline and Niinistö's savings.
