Paris Saint-Germain, who has 65 points from 29 games, is still 12 points ahead of Olympique de Marseille, who beat Nice 2-1 with goals from Arkadiusz Milik from the penalty spot at the end of the first half and late Cedric Bakambu.
Nice slipped to fourth place with 50 points, two behind Stade Rennes, who crushed struggling Metz 6-1 with a Cerro Gerassi hat-trick. Champions League against Real Madrid, who scored three goals in 17 minutes.
Monaco jumped to seventh place with 44 points.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe said, “(Monaco) played really well and I congratulate him. It’s a good, great team.
“Our goal is to win the league for the tenth time. We can win 8-0 or 9-0 and everyone will continue to talk about the Champions League. Whatever happens we have to respect ourselves, and if we have a little self-respect we need to respect the fans as well.”
Pochettino’s normally calm tone changed to one of anger. “The way we lost is absolutely unacceptable in a tournament of this level. We can’t start the game like we did,” added the Argentine coach, who took over Paris Saint-Germain in the middle of last season.
“We need to get past our Champions League exit, and I hope the international break will help us put what happened behind us.”
Monaco outperformed its host in the midfield and quickly punished the capital’s team.
Wissam Ben Yedder gave the hosts the lead after 25 minutes when he was the fastest to reach the ball from Presnel Kimpembe at the near post to convert Youssef Fofana’s cross into the goal.
The goal came shortly after Neymar’s shot went wide.
PSG improved a little before the break and Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi created several chances, but the performance was less than usual.
The situation did not change after the break and Mbappe missed two chances before Monaco added the second goal in the 68th minute.
Fofana passed the ball to Ben Yedder on the right and the France striker set it up for Robin Aguilar, who put him in Kevin Volland’s path to score from close range.
Pochettino included Mauro Icardi and Julian Draxler instead of Leandro Paredes and Neymar, but also to no avail, and the team conceded another goal.
Voland fell inside the penalty area after an interference from Kimpembe, and Ben Yedder successfully hit the penalty spot, inflicting Paris Saint-Germain with the fourth loss in a row away from home in all competitions.
