What information does Peter Navarro have on the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021? The former senior adviser to ex-President Donald Trump is said to be answering questions before the committee of inquiry.
Washington – The committee of inquiry into the storming of the US Capitol has summoned Peter Navarro, another former senior adviser to ex-President Donald Trump.
Trump’s former trade advisor is scheduled to submit certain documents to the House panel within two weeks and then answer questions from lawmakers on March 2, according to a letter to Navarro. Committee chair Bennie Thompson said Navarro has information relevant to the investigation into the attack on the Capitol and Trump’s efforts to overturn the presidential election.
Legal action possible
As a rule, the hearings of the committee are not open to the public. If Navarro fails to comply with the subpoena, the panel could initiate a process to allow criminal prosecution against him. Some of Trump’s supporters, including his former chief strategist Steve Bannon, have refused to cooperate with the committee. Bannon was therefore indicted in November for contempt of Congress.
After an inciting speech by Republican Trump, his supporters stormed the seat of Congress in Washington on January 6, 2021. They wanted to prevent the confirmation of the election victory of the Democrat Joe Biden. The attack killed five people and injured dozens. The attack on the heart of US democracy shook the country. dpa
