Mexico City.- The Specialized Chamber of the TEPJF determined that the PAN federal representative for Nuevo León Pedro Garza Treviño committed gender political violence against his then opponent of the Citizen Movement, Laura Paula López Sánchez.
On May 16, during a debate between candidates for the federal deputyship for the 11th district, the Emecista told her opponent from the PAN-PRI-PRD that it was sad that she now allowed herself to be embraced by the tricolor when that party stole the Mayor’s Office from her. Guadeloupe.
In his defense, the PAN member began to yell at him, and tempers heated up to such a degree that the candidate’s son threw a cell phone at him to make him stop. “He committed political violence based on gender since he made bodily expressions against Laura Paula López Sánchez as signs of threat against her physical integrity in the context of the debate, such as hitting the podium with his fist making exclamations in an aggressive and energetic voice.
“Pointing his finger at the complainant in an aggressive manner, confronting her standing up in a threatening manner, while invading her personal space,” he said.
The Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) imposed a fine of 10,857 pesos on Garza Treviño, in addition to ordering him to offer a public apology to the emecista. He must publish part of the sentence on his social networks, and he will have to take courses on political gender violence. Once the resolution is final, since the PAN member can still appeal to the Superior Chamber, he will be registered in the National Registry of Persons Sanctioned in Matters of Political Violence against Women on the basis of Gender for one year and six months.
