The fashion for reviving topics that were trendy or famous at the time has not ended. Television continues to insist that reboots or remembering what happened in the 90s and 80s is a good formula, so the premiere of the Star Plus Pam & Tommy series is proof of this.
The show reminds us of a case that grabbed headlines in 1994/1995 and examines the pivotal moments in the story behind the disclosure of the sex tape of Pamela Anderson and her husband Tommy Lee.
YOU CAN SEE: We are dead: the hard story of the scientist who gave life to the virus and zombies
A series with Sebastian Stan and Lily James
Pam & Tommy to Adapt Amanda Chicago Lewis’ Article for Rolling Stone where he explores the scandal behind the video that engulfed the celebrities of the mid-90s.
Baywatch star and sex symbol of the decade Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee had an affair that was followed from start to finish by the media, marrying four days after they met. Robert Siegel’s eight-part miniseries looks at what happened to the couple after a private tape of them went—for the first time and thanks to the power of the then-new internet—very, very viral.
The theft of the video and Pamela Anderson as a victim
Seth Rogen brings to life the cause of all the couple’s problems in real life: Rand Gauthier. He is a contractor who was fired by Tommy Lee and in revenge he robs the rock star’s garage safe. Already with the loot from him, he finds various things and an unmarked videocassette. He takes him to his friend, a director of the porn industry. Watching the tape, they realize that it is an intimate video of Anderson and Lee.
From here we see that Pam & Tommy criticizes the media machinations behind a scandal, the public’s appetite to see and obtain private images and the legal biases that allowed the events to unfold as we know: arrest of the thief, dissemination of the videotape and a negotiation in the midst of an illegal disclosure.
As the scenes go by, the viewer will see that Anderson bears the brunt of this problem and how his career suffers significant damage. From her discussions with her lawyers, awkward moments on the set of Baywatch and in her Playboy sessions, the actress had to be in charge of a case that she should not go through pregnant with her first child.
The Star Plus series balances the public events and the private lives of Pamela and Tommy, the problems at home and how they were left at the mercy of public ridicule, one that to this day remembers and talks about that scandal that shook the decade of the 90s. The show, intended for adults, is now available on the streaming service.
