The 11th round of the Brazilian Championship began with a classic full of goals at Allianz Parque, in São Paulo: Palmeiras beat Santos 3-2 and, with the triumph, was alone in the first position of the table, as Red Bull Bragantino , with whom he shared the leadership, tied with Athletico Paranaense in Curitiba by 2 to 2.
Verdão’s victory was built mainly in the first half. With 21 minutes into the game, Palmeiras was winning 2-0, with goals from Gustavo Gómez, headed (in João Paulo’s mistaken exit from the Santos goal) and Breno Lopes, in a cross kick from the edge of the area after a well-crafted move.
Santos spent the confrontation trying to chase the opponent without ever reaching equality. At 20 of the second stage, Uruguayan Carlos Sánchez took a penalty that he himself suffered to reduce the disadvantage.
However, at 37, Willian anchored Deyverson’s header to re-open two goals facing the hosts. The goal was disallowed for offside, but after intervention by the video referee, it was validated.
At 47, in another penalty, this time taken by Marinho, Alvinegro Praiano pulled over again, but there was not enough time to try for a draw.
The 3-2 triumph was Palmeiras’ fifth in a row in the championship, taking the team to 25 points from a total of 33 played. Santos has 15 points.
Athletico and Bragantino are equal in a duel at the top of the table
At Arena da Baixada, Athletico Paranaense and Red Bull Bragantino entered the field as two of the four best teams in the competition and during the 90 minutes they justified the condition. In a balanced game, the teams tied for 2-2, highlighting the beautiful goal by Alerrandro, which opened the scoring for visitors in Curitiba. He received it and, from outside the area, landed a shot with rare precision that stopped at the left corner of the goal defended by Bento. Nikão, in the first stage and Terans, in the second, turned to Athletico, but with eleven minutes to go, Ytalo equalized the score again. With 23 points, Bragantino remains the only undefeated in the competition, but saw Palmeiras open two points at the top. Athletico are close behind, in third, with 20 points, but with a game in hand.
Gre-Nal from Felipão’s debut ends goalless
On the return of coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, Felipão, to the command of Grêmio, the derby with the greatest rivalry in Rio Grande do Sul and one of the fiercest in the country, ended in a draw. Playing at Arena do Grêmio, both Tricolor and Internacional failed to take the zero off the scoreboard. The main responsible for the lack of goals was the shirt 34 of Grêmio, goalkeeper Gabriel Chapecó, with several good saves. The result was not satisfactory for any of the teams, which follow poorly in the table: Colorado has only 11 points, momentarily occupying the 14th place, while Grêmio, which has not yet won the championship, does not leave the light, with three points added.
