The Palestinian side rejected the paper presented by Israel regarding reaching a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement, after it became clear to it that it differed fundamentally from the proposals announced by US President Joe Biden.
The Palestinian factions said in an explanatory memorandum yesterday, “After examining the content of the Israeli paper, it became clear that it is a paper that does not lay the correct foundations for the required agreement. It does not guarantee a permanent ceasefire, but rather a temporary ceasefire, and it does not closely link the three stipulated stages, but rather On the contrary, the bridges that transferred the agreement from one stage to another were demolished with the aim of disrupting the unity of the agreement in all its stages and reducing it to a single stage in which the aggression stops temporarily, its forces remain on the territory of the Gaza Strip, and the Israeli army obtains in return the segment of prisoners that interests it, and then resumes the war of extermination. Against our people.”
She added: “When President Biden made his statements, the factions announced that they welcomed what he said, because it provides the necessary foundations to reach an agreement that achieves a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip, the flow of large amounts of aid, the return of the displaced, reconstruction, and the exchange of prisoners, and they did not hesitate.” The factions immediately announced their positive position regarding these statements, because they are consistent with the May 6 paper, and contain the required foundations, the most important of which is a permanent ceasefire and complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.”
Egyptian media quoted sources as saying that Egyptian, Qatari and American leaders met in Doha yesterday to discuss reviving negotiations aimed at reaching a truce in Gaza.
