Major General (Retd) RN Chhibber, who took part in the wars of 1962, 1965 and 1971, died at his residence on Saturday. A defense spokesman gave this information on Sunday. He was 86 years old.
Chhibber was born on September 23, 1934. He joined the army on 2 June 1995. General Chhibber was stationed in Afghanistan from 1972 to 1975 as a military attache. The spokesman said, ‘He was an outstanding officer who also commanded the 8 Jat Regiment. His expertise and exceptional strategy made him a brilliant officer. ‘ He said that General Chhibber breathed his last at his residence at Shanti Vihar in Kalukchak area of Jammu on Saturday. He was given a military farewell with all due respect.
Chhibber was extremely kind: Spokesperson
The spokesman said, ‘General Chhibber was not only an officer of exceptional merit, but a humanitarian and a very kind man. He was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for distinguished service. He said that General Chhibber continued to work for the upliftment of soldiers and their families throughout his career. His colleague Colonel Makhan Singh Gill said, General Chhibber was a great soldier, a highly respected and admired officer and loved very much by those who knew him. Three decades after his retirement, he is still in the hearts of so many people.
