The re-elected mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), dedicated his victory in the first round in the capital of Rio de Janeiro to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and made nods to governor Cláudio Castro (PL) in his victory speech on the night this Sunday, 6th, in Gávea Pequena, official residence of the municipality’s chief executive.
“Governor Cláudio Castro, we are on your side. From today onwards, the conflicts will end”, stated Paes in a message to the governor. “We will work alongside Governor Cláudio Castro.”
According to Paes, “it is no longer possible to continue politicizing everything in Rio de Janeiro”. At another point in the speech, the mayor of the capital of Rio de Janeiro said that, despite disagreeing with the governor’s management, he is open to working with him, just as he does with the federal government.
“Governor Cláudio Castro needs to understand that this role (public security) is his,” he said. According to the mayor, Castro “cannot give in to political pressure” and cites cases in which the governor would have placed commanders in battalions to favor political appointments.
Supported by President Lula, Paes made a point of dedicating the victory in the first round to the PT member. “I want to dedicate this victory to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.”
