The Guardia Civil, mountain-rescue service was called out twice in one day to rescue people within the Junta de Los Rios in the municipality of Otívar.
The first rescue operation occured around 13.30h in an area used for abseiling. Someone had phoned 112 to say that a person had taken a serious fall whilst descending using abseiling equipment -several people had witnessed the accident.
Then at 15.15h the emergency call center received another call to report that a woman in her early 20s had sustained an ankle injury whilst making her way down the waterfalls.
Consequently, the Guardia Civil helicopter used for rescue missions made its way twice in one afternoon from its base in Armilla.
In both instances the victims were flown to a helipad belonging to 112 in Granada, from where they were taken by ambulance to the Virgen de las Nieves Hospital, which deals with trauma cases.
