Organization against gender violence rejected the arrival of Sebastián Villa to Independiente Rivadavia

Villa was sentenced in June 2023 to two years and one month of conditional prison for “coercive threats in real competition, with minor injuries aggravated by the relationship in the context of gender violence” to his ex-girlfriend Daniela Cortés.

As soon as Villa’s arrival at Independiente Rivadavia became known, an organization against gender violence in Mendoza, Ni una menos, spoke out to reject the Colombian’s arrival.

“Villa was sentenced to two years and one month in suspended prison for gender violence against his ex-partner, Daniela Cortés. Although he is on parole, his actions should not be minimized,” says the statement, cited by the social networks of the newspaper Olé.

“The incorporation of Villa sends the wrong message to the community, especially to victims of gender violence. We urge Independiente Rivadavia to reconsider this decision and demonstrate a real commitment to the fight against gender violence,” he adds.

The president of the club had already spoken about the decision to take Villa, despite their problems with gender violence. “We are talking about a person with a firm conviction. “Anyone can make a mistake and has the right to a second chance,” Vila said.
