The German company Opel has started production of the sixth generation Astra hatchback at its plant in Rüsselsheim (Germany). Sales of the model in Russia will begin in the second half of 2022. About it informs February 10 press service of the automaker.
The new Astra is said to be a key element of Opel’s electrification strategy in 2022. The new five-door Astra will reach European customers in the spring and will initially be offered as a plug-in hybrid, followed by a battery-powered Astra-e in 2023.
The hatchback model was introduced in July 2021. The novelty is based on the global modular platform EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform2), on which the Peugeot 3008, Peugeot 5008 and Citroen C5 Aircross models are also based.
The car received a signature Opel Vizor element, characteristic of all new Opel models: it combines the radiator grille, headlights and the Opel emblem into a single whole.
The model was equipped with adaptive cruise control with the Stop & Go function, a surround view camera, a blind spot monitoring system and a lane keeping function.
The hatchback for the European market is equipped with a 1.2-liter petrol turbo engine with a capacity of 110 and 130 hp, as well as a 130-horsepower 1.5-liter diesel unit. In addition, the car received two hybrid modifications.
On November 30, it was reported that Opel introduced an updated corporate logo. The firm decided to ditch the 3D logo. Also, the designers changed the shape of the logo lightning, and made its rim thinner. The word Opel is written in a new typeface called Opel Next.
