The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship revealed that Tunisian Anas Jaber is ready to participate in its competitions, as she is the most prominent candidate to win the title, given her continuous successes in various world championships. This year, it ranked seventh in the world, after achieving many achievements that made it a symbol in the world of Arab sports.
Commenting on this issue, Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free, said: “Anas has made amazing progress since her first participation in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Her success has not only been dependent on achieving outstanding sporting achievements, but she has also carved out a niche for herself as one of the most famous stars of the WTA Tour. We look forward to seeing her progress, not only this month in Dubai, but throughout the entire season, and we wish her the further success she certainly deserves.”
Anas showed promising talents at an early age, reaching the final of the Junior Grand Slam tournament at the French Open in 2010, and again in 2011 when she won the title to become the first Arab player to win a singles junior tennis tournament since Ismail Al Shafei won the Wimbledon Championship for the youth category. In 1964, Anas moved from the junior category to the main round, and drew attention to her after participating in the first Grand Slam final in Moscow in 2018, to receive the award for the best Arab woman of the year in the field of sports in 2019.
The year 2020 marked the actual starting point for Ons, as she starred in the Australian Open to become the first Arab woman to qualify for the quarter-finals in a Grand Slam event by defeating Caroline Wozniacki, the former world number one, who announced her retirement after this loss.
