Yesterday International Women’s Day was commemorated and in this context I would like to applaud all the women who lead and are part of the great changes in favor of gender equality in our state, the country and in the world.
And it is that they are the ones who have taken up the banner of climate change and caring for the environment, equal pay between genders, and the fight against violence with the greatest force.
It is women who, with infinite sisterhood, have been opening a gap for all without distinction of creed, ideology or profession. They are the ones who set the example every day with tireless work.
In Ahome the examples are infinite, from those women who have opened work camps such as the fisherwomen who have formed cooperatives seeking a better income for their families, to the businesswomen who are increasingly more or the indigenous women who, in addition to fighting for daily sustenance seek to preserve their values and culture.
Women who organize themselves in associations and even unions to achieve respect for domestic employment and who have undertaken the struggle to search for a missing loved one.
There are also those who, building paths for women’s political participation, advance more and more in initiatives and public policies so that gender equality becomes a reality.
We have outstanding athletes, women in culture and the arts, those who dedicate themselves to education and those who, with their heads held high, are heads of families carrying out more than one job to support their children.
It is for this reason that I assume as a responsibility of the Municipal Government in its entirety to raise awareness of the enormous capacity of women and to do so by example, that is, with full recognition of their capacities for intelligence and preparation but also for sensitivity and ability to fight for just causes.
And it is that, I am convinced that, hand in hand with women, giving them the place that corresponds to them as makers of change, Ahome will manage to position itself as an example of Well-being. Because sustainable development, human rights and peace can only be achieved if women and men enjoy, to a greater extent and on an equal footing, opportunities, options and capacities that allow us to live in freedom and with dignity.
It is for all this that I call on the entire Ahomean people so that gender equality becomes part of our DNA, because only together, all of us, without distinction of gender, economic position, ideologies or academic level, will we achieve the municipality where we want to live. and where we want our families to develop.
I thus congratulate all the women in Ahome for their day but, beyond that, I make a commitment for my mother, my wife, my daughters and my sisters to work every day so that they can all develop their potential, which are many, with peace and security, because an Ahome of Well-being will only be possible in equality.
