The National Police has arrested DEC, one of the most wanted fugitive drug traffickers in Europe, in a luxury urbanization in Barcelona. DEC, the alias by which EK is known, is accused of transporting more than 300 kilos of heroin from Iran to Slovenia, the country where the arrested man is from. The defendant was on Europol’s list of the hundred most dangerous and wanted fugitives. The detainee faces a possible sentence of ten years in prison in his country, as he was involved in the transport of the drug between March 2018 and May 2019 along with four other people.
The investigation to locate this fugitive began at the end of 2019, when specialized agents of the National Police became aware of the European arrest and surrender warrant issued by Slovenia for EK, for drug trafficking, since he was considered a target “ high value”.
The National Police was in permanent contact with the Slovenian Police, exchanging information, which made it possible to discover data on the false entities used by the fugitive, the properties where he had lived and the vehicles he had used. Finally, the Police located his home in a Barcelona town, where he lived with his family in a luxury development next to a golf course.
The characteristics of the urbanization, as well as the existence of a neighborhood chat to warn of any strange presence in the area that could be part of the investigated, forced the agents to establish a distant surveillance of the house from a wooded area, according to the police have detailed. Once the presence of the suspect at the scene was confirmed, the Police arrested him, with the support of two Slovenian agents expressly dispatched to the scene. Suspecting that the man could be armed, and taking into account his dangerousness, the agents acted with surprise and forcefulness to arrest him, according to the Police.
