One of Navantia Ferrol’s ‘stork’ cranes fell into the sea early this Saturday, November 23, in an incident that occurred due to the crane of the ship ‘Brave Tern’ hitting it. It has been under repair for months in the Ferrol estuary, first in the old Astano and now in Bazán.
At the time of the accident in the area there were strong gusts of wind. According to Navantia sources, the maneuver was carried out by the shipowner assisted by pilots and tugboats from the port.
They assure that “for reasons that are being investigated”in this maneuver the crane of the ‘Brave Tern’ knocked down the crane from the shipyard dock which fell into the sea on a punt.
In this way, and immediately, the shipyard activated the emergency committee and the established protocols were put in place.
In this incident no person was injured and Navantia has mobilized all means to control and monitor the situation, which does not imply no risk to people or facilities.
