A Deadpool and Wolverine editor explained why we haven’t seen more variations of Wolverine’s costumes in the film, simultaneously revealing the exorbitant cost of Hugh Jackman’s classic costumethe brown and beige one.
“There were a lot of [varianti]. One of the storyboard artists, a huge comic book fan, gave us a list of 10 costumes… There were so many,” editor Dean Zimmerman explained to ComicBookMovie.com’s Josh Wilding. Why weren’t they used? Due to time and budget problems, essentially. Consider that the production of Deadpool & Wolverine was affected by actor and screenwriter strikes of 2023so there wasn’t time for many extras.
Exorbitant cost
“Here’s a perfect example: We spent about $100,000 making that brown and beige costume. They’re expensive… We had to try to do things cheaper. ‘Hugh, can you take off your shirt and get nailed to a cross? Yes, I can do it. No problem.’… ‘Can you play an old man? Certain.'”
Zimmerman added: “They were all good ideas, but we had to take into account both budget and time: once we started shooting again, the deadline to deliver the film was really tight.”
The $100,000 costume is a reference to John Byrne’s X-Men series. It was used for a few seconds in the film, in a moment that is better not told because it would be too much of a spoiler. What we can tell you is that it has been joined by several variations, including that of “Cavrilline” (played by Henry Cavill) and Old Logan.
