A 16 year old student has died and two others have been injured this Wednesday in a shooting in the cafeteria of a high school in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. The shooter – who was 17 years old and I was also a student from Antioch High School – committed suicide after committing the attack, Metropolitan Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron confirmed during a press conference.
Police Chief John Drake reported that the shooter “he faced” at a student in the cafeteria and then opened fire. He also stated that the student who was injured suffered a scratch, and was treated and released from the hospital. Another student was also taken to the hospital. after suffering a fall that caused a facial injury. Police are investigating what motivated the young man to commit the attack and whether the students who were shot were his target.
Aaron also indicated that there were two officers at the school when the shooting occurred, but that They were not in the vicinity of the cafeteria. When they reached that area, the shooting had stopped and the attacker had already committed suicide. After the shooting, the school staff asked the parents of the students not to pick them up from school, but to a nearby hospital. In the hospital center – which was used as reunification point– authorities helped parents find their children.
This shooting comes nearly two years after a shooter opened fire at a private Nashville elementary school and will kill six peopleincluding three children. Additionally, it is worth noting that the Antioch neighborhood has suffered other major shootings in recent years. In 2017 a woman died and seven other people were injured in a shooting at a church and in 2018 a shooter killed four people at a Waffle House, a fast food restaurant chain.
