One dead and one injured when a small plane crashes in Palencia | La Verdad

The person who died in the accident that occurred this morning in the Palencia town of Abia de las Torres when a light aircraft that had taken off from Burgos airport crashed is a student at the FlyBy Aviation Academy, apparently of foreign nationality. The flight instructor who was travelling with her was seriously injured and taken to the hospital in Palencia after being treated by medical teams in Osorno.

The 112 police alerted the Castilla y León Regional Government’s rescue helicopter at around 10:30 a.m., as it was not known where the plane had crashed. The helicopter located the crash, 600 metres north of the Palencia town of Abia de las Torres, near Osorno, on a farm on the border with the province of Burgos, around kilometre 106 of the A-231 motorway.

Apparently, the plane announced an emergency landing before crashing into a field of farmland and, as a result of the impact with the ground, the aircraft bounced upwards and fell back down on its nose. As a result of the accident, the young student died instantly.
