On the Front Page – The balance in Peru two months after a crisis with no way out

First modification: 02/11/2023 – 23:33

Peru is still mired in a social and political upheaval that seems to have no way out. The protests continue almost two months after Pedro Castillo’s failed self-coup and the dozens of deaths due to police repression. The feeling in the streets is that the situation has become untenable. In this episode of En Primera Plana we take stock of this crisis and its underlying factors.

Nobody thinks at this point in the elections as a solution, but rather as the lesser evil. The Peruvian Congress rejects the ninth electoral advance project and President Dina Boluarte assures that she is not going to resign from office. The clamor for early elections is not only national, international organizations such as the OAS have requested that the call to the polls be made as soon as possible. We break it down with the help of our guests:

– Valérie Robin Azevedo, professor of social anthropology at Paris Diderot University and professor at INALCO.
