The PT candidate for the Planalto Palace, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvacriticized this Wednesday (31.Aug.2022) the president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) during a speech in Manaus (AM).
He mentioned the collapse of the health system in the Amazon capital during the pandemic. He also thanked Venezuela for help when the city ran out of hospital oxygen to treat those infected with the coronavirus in 2021.
The historical connection between Lula and the PT with Chavismo, the political current that runs Venezuela, is used by Bolsonaro to try to increase the electorate’s rejection of the PT candidate.
“I even want to take the opportunity today to thank the ambassador of Venezuela, who sent oxygen to Manaus to save lives here despite the President of the Republic offending Venezuela so much”declared Lula.
“They were the ones who sent the oxygen that the lieutenant did not have the courage to send, or that the Ministry of Health did not have the courage to send”said the PT.
“I know that the current president has already come here to Manaus. But he came to Manaus to motorbike. I did not come to do motorcycle riding, I came to visit the factory where the workers who produce the motorcycles are working”declared the PT candidate.
“If a lieutenant expelled from the army doesn’t have the courage to treat the people with respect, a metallurgist will come back to treat the people with the decency that the people deserve”he said.
He was referring to Bolsonaro, despite the fact that the current president is a captain and not a lieutenant.
Lula, 76, has once again stated that he is in good health, a common statement in his campaign.
On Monday (29.Aug.2022), Ciro Gomes (PDT), also a presidential candidate, said on his Twitter account that the PT “is every day weaker –physically, psychologically and theoretically– to face the bloodthirsty right”. Then he deleted the post.
“I got married 2 months ago. Just as I got married, and I have love to give for many years, I have the strength to take care of these people for many years to come.”declared Lula.
Lula made the statements at a rally in Manaus. The event was scheduled for 6pm. The candidate took the podium around 9:10 pm.

The PT candidate for the Presidency of the Republic also made a counterpoint to Bolsonaro’s environmental policy.
“We will respect our Amazon, our forest. There will be no more illegal mining in this country. There will be no more illegal deforestation in this country. There will be no more invasion of indigenous lands in this country.”
He also said that:
“Brazil has a lot of land. And those who try to invade your land are irresponsible squatters. Because, Eduardo and Omar, a responsible farmer who plants for export, knows that he cannot invade indigenous land, he knows that he cannot deforest, he knows that he cannot do fires because the gringos will no longer buy the things he produces.”
Other politicians besides Lula gave speeches. Eduardo Braga criticized the current governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima (Brazil Union).
Omar Aziz criticized Jair Bolsonaro and compared Lula to Jesus Christ. The senator gave the following statement in reference to the Lava Jato accusations against the former president, who did not contest the 2018 election because he was in prison:
“There is no one perfect. And he that was perfect was crucified. And he was not crucified by the people. Jesus was crucified by the highest authorities he had in Rome. In a collusion between Jews and the command of Rome. In the same way they tried to destroy Lula. In a collusion between judges and people from the Public Ministry. But Lula is here. Lula is here. And he’s not here to ride his motorcycle. He’s not here for a walk. He is here to say ‘there is hope in Brazil, there is hope in the Amazon’. That’s the difference.”
Lula’s trip to the North region of the country was planned by PT members since the middle of the 1st semester of this year, still in the pre-campaign, but it only came out now.
Before the rally, PT visited the Honda factory in the Manaus Free Trade Zone and participated in activities with indigenous leaders.

On Thursday morning (September 1, 2022), Lula flies to Belém (PA). She participates in an act with representatives of the culture sector at 11 am and holds a rally in the early evening. The next day, still in the capital of Pará, she has a new activity with indigenous leaders.
