‘OMT advised to spare supermarkets and contact professions’
The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) has not advised the cabinet on measures that affect supermarkets, contact professions and higher education, ANP news agency reports. Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte (VVD) and Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health, CDA) announced restrictions for those sectors on Friday evening.
Essential shops such as supermarkets must close at 8 p.m. from Saturday and contact professions such as hairdressers must close at 6 p.m. But measures there are “not (yet) necessary”, advised the OMT.
In higher education and MBOs, the maximum group size will be reduced again to 75. According to the ANP, the OMT had advised against “taking additional measures in education in the interest of the development of children and young people.”
The OMT would have liked to see all events banned, except for children’s parties such as Sinterklaas entryways. But the cabinet decided to ban events only after 6 p.m.
