Omikron variant found among 18 KLM passengers in South Africa on 26 November
The Omikron variant has been detected in 18 of the 61 passengers on the two KLM flights from South Africa on 26 November who tested positive for corona. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports this on Saturday. The research that the institute conducted into Omikron infections on these flights has now been completed.
Some of the KLM passengers infected with the Omikron variant have mild complaints, the RIVM said. “Others hardly or not at all.” The people who have no complaints are allowed to be out of isolation this Saturday. “The situation is different per person,” according to the RIVM. “For the people who are still in isolation and are not allowed to travel, a safe solution is being sought in consultation with the GGD and the country of final destination.”
The RIVM reported earlier this week that the Omikron variant was shown in two people who tested positive for corona on November 19 and 23. One of the infected persons had not recently been abroad, which means that this person became infected in the Netherlands and the virus has already spread in our country.
