From last Friday to today, 58 probable cases of Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus have been identified and confirmations with sequencing analyzes are in progress. This was announced by the management of the Careggi University Hospital in Florence. The provenance of the cases mainly concerns the Florentine metropolitan area. The analyzes are underway in the Careggi laboratory of microbiology and virology and the technicians specify that it takes about 5 days for the definitive response.
The search for the Omicron variant is by now a routine examination on all the positive swabs that arrive in Careggi as a laboratory center for a large central area of the Tuscan territory. Currently, on average, between 100 and 150 swabs per day are examined, with variable volumes in relation to the total of positives.
