Senator questions speech suggesting that Covid CPI could have been closed if president “accepted” amendment
the senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM) triggered the STF (Federal Supreme Court) this Thursday (May 26, 2022) against a statement by the president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) at an event of the Paulista Association of Supermarkets. A rapporteur for the case has not yet been selected.
The speech is from the 16th of May. Bolsonaro claimed that he could have “finished” with the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of Covid, chaired by Aziz, if “accept” an amendment proposed by the congressman.
“What did that amendment say, Paulo Guedes? governors and mayors could buy vaccine from anywhere in the world, without Anvisa certification and without bidding. How wonderful, Consortium of the Northeast”Bolsonaro said at the time.
According to Aziz, the representative’s declaration “apparent imputation of criminal conduct“, or at least “discrediting” for suggesting that there was a negotiation to close the CPI. The senator asks Bolsonaro to be summoned to explain the statement.
Here’s the intact of the request sent to the STF (382 KB).
“[Bolsonaro] he would be stating that if he had accepted this constitutional amendment, the CPI that investigated his performance would not have lasted more than a few weeks. It happens that this 1st possible interpretation, making up an illogical and hermetic statement, because it is not up to the president to accept or not an amendment to the Constitution”says the document.
A 2nd possible interpretation, continues Aziz, is that the declaration would be about a parliamentary amendment, in which budget funds are allocated.
“Thus, in view of the dubious speech now questioned, the apparent imputation of criminal conduct to the Respondent, or at least discrediting to his image, remains present, showing that it is necessary for the Respondent to make certain clarifications, so that it is possible to carry out an accurate understanding of his speech”he said.
